General : There are two MD-4 200 machines in a cell
being loaded / unloaded by a gantry type robot –
robot is not included.

The general appearance of the machines is good. The
machines are dirty but all guards are in place and
none were bent or damaged.

One machine was operational the other had a bad
control board that has since been replaced and
the machine is now operational .

I opened the front covers and ran the one machine
thru some part program cycles. The spindles ramped
up to speed smoothly, they ran thru the cycle speeding
up, slowing down and breaking without any signs
of vibration or noise
Age 1998
Notes
- The slides ran smoothly with no vibration.
- The carrier index was smooth, quiet and no vibration.
- Six parts were run, which had an overall .0008” total tolerance.
The parts had OD turning, ID boring with a shoulder and two threaded areas.
- The part finishes were very good and all checked well within tolerance.

Based on the above I believe the ballscrews and slides are
in good condition because of repeatability. The good finishes
indicate good spindle bearings. The machines showed no signs
of prior crashes, probably because of the robot system
 instead of human operators.
